The first "Food Fraud – Global Understanding" international conference took place on April 4-5, 2017 at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City. The aim of the congress was to provide an overview of the various developments and commitments made around the world regarding the problem of food fraud and its global issues.
The conference was organized jointly by CRIBIQ, the Université Laval's Institut de nutrition et des aliments fonctionnels (INAF) and Queen's University Belfast, with the collaboration of several financial and strategic partners: R-Biopharm, EnvironeX, the Mars Global Food Safety Center, the ministère de l'Économie, des Sciences et de l'Innovation du Québec (MESI), Citadelle, BDO, the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity (CCFI), AOAC INTERNATIONAL, IUFoST, the Association québécoise pour l'innocuité alimentaire (AQIA), TransBIOTech and L'actualité Alimentaire.
The 182 participants came from four (4) continents and 12 countries: Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Belgium, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, China, Australia and South Africa, and from two provinces: Ontario and Quebec.

directly involved involved in the regulation, inspection and prevention of food fraud. 70+ representatives from the private sector in food production, processing, distribution, consulting and analysis from here and abroad also took part in the congress, as did several representatives from seven (7) countries and 14 centtres and institutes. Lastly, the conference was covered by a wide range of print, radio and television media.
