Manufacture of Precipitated Silica From Glass Recovered From Selective Waste Collection

SiliCycle Group Inc. and the Centre de recherche industrielle du Québec (CRIQ) have developed a technology to transform glass into precipitated silica. Based on this innovation, RV2 Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of SiliCycle Group Inc., aims to industrialize the transformation of glass from selective collection into silica, for several outlets in fine chemistry and industry, such as precipitated silica.

Precipitated silica is the most important specialty silica on the market. Unlike other types of silicas, specialty silicas do not present any health risks or significant environmental concerns. They are used as a filler, diluent, anti-agglomerant, thickener, polisher and abrasive. For these reasons, silica has many applications in the tire, rubber, food, paint and cosmetic industries.
