The advanced circular economy involves making optimal use of bioresources in order to maximize economic value and improve the carbon balance. The biochar sector is perfectly ine line with this approach, as it represents an attractive way of using biomass to replace fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Often limited by regulations, global biochar production stood at 262,000 tonnes in 2011 and is expected to double by 2020.
For several years now, Quebec has been witnessing an industrial trend towards the development of innovative biochar production and biomass pre-treatment processes, enabling this bioproduct to target markets other than energy, including agriculture, environmental protection and high added-value products.
Collaborative innovation, securing the supply of biomass, bringing together stakeholders, stepping up innovation and structuring knowledge and infrastructure networks are the cornerstones of the development of an integrated and competitive biochar industry in Quebec.
The CRIBIQ has therefore decided to bring together all the key players in Quebec's biochar industry at this event, entitled: "Industrial and Environmental Challenges Facing the Biochar Industry in Quebec", to focus on the following aspects:
This conference is aimed at manufacturers, researchers, engineers, students, managers, bioresource suppliers, equipment manufacturers and end users.
