All-Round Success for the 2nd Edition of the Forum Innovation on the Bioeconomy in Quebec (FIBEQ) 29th June 2022

All-Round Success for the 2nd Edition of the Forum Innovation on the Bioeconomy in Quebec (FIBEQ)

The event was held at the CECi in Trois-Rivières from June 20 to June 22, 2022.

Quebec, June 29, 2022 – Some 230 stakeholders from across the province, Canada and Europe attended, on June 20-21-22, 2022, the 2nd edition of the Forum Innovation on the Bioeconomy in Quebec ( FIBEQ). The event, organized jointly by the Consortium de recherche et innovations en bioprocédés industriels au Québec (CRIBIQ), Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières (IDE Trois-Rivières), Innofibre – Centre d'innovation des produits cellulosiques and the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières (UQTR), was the perfect opportunity for the participants to take advantage of privileged spaces and moments of discussion on the subject of the bioeconomy, a strategy based on the use and circularity of renewable resources (biomass) aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and combating the impoverishment of ecosystems while stimulating economic growth.

Entrepreneurs, researchers, experts, startups, industrials and economic development organizations have therefore taken advantage of this dream opportunity to have enriching exchanges and deepen their knowledge of this promising field. Through the concepts highlighted by 64 speakers and panelists, the guests were able to learn more about artificial intelligence applied to sustainable innovation, the agri-food sector in the post-pandemic era, the bioresources used according to the principle of circular economy and reduction of greenhouse gases, biosourced products and entrepreneurship. The FIBEQ 2022 also offered a look at all activities in the bioeconomy and emphasized the importance of combining efforts and connecting key players in this sector to improve innovation, a principle at the heart of the 2022-2027 Quebec strategy to support research and investment in innovation presented by the Assistant Deputy Minister for Science and Innovation Mathieu Gervais. The lectures of Ms. Virginia Puzzolo (BBI JU, European Union) and Mr. Bernhard Koch (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria) also allowed participants to learn lessons on the response to the challenges of bioeconomy research in Europe, a world pioneer in this economic sphere, thus allowing them to initiate a reflection on the structuring of the efforts of this sector to ensure its effective and coherent development on the Quebec territory.

"FIBEQ is an opportunity to show how the bioeconomy is a strong lever for Quebec, its cities and its regions. The bioeconomy is a solution to green economic recovery that makes it possible to achieve government objectives in terms of the environment in different sectors of activity: forestry, agriculture, agri-food, manufacturing... By implementing a bio-based and circular economy, we we have everything in hand to create a sustainable, strong and innovative economy." – Jean-Philippe Jacques, director of Innofibre

"Rich and diversified, the bioeconomy is intimately linked to the development of our regions and constitutes a real opportunity for innovation and wealth creation for Quebec." – President and CEO of the CRIBIQ, Nathalie Ouimet

The 3rd edition of the Forum Innovation on the Bioeconomy in Quebec (FIBEQ) will be presented in Trois-Rivières in 2024. Until then, a study on the state of the bioeconomy in Mauricie will be made public this fall.
