Program 2024-25 125th Call for projects

BTM-Propulsion II

The bioeconomy is based on the production and valorization of various bioresources: agricultural, forestry, residuel and aquatic, including marine bioresources. The potential of Quebec's halieutic sector – which refers to the exploitation of living aquatic resources – represents a promising avenue for Quebec's bioeconomy. Marine biotechnologies offer avenues for adding value to marine products and their co-products in a multitude of industrial applications, such as agrobiotechnology, aquaculture, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, animal and human health, biofuels and biomedical – all active industrial sectors in Quebec. In 2022, the global marine biotechnology market was worth US$5.4 billion, and is expected to reach US$6.9 billion by 2029.

Marine biotechnologies represent a promising avenue for modernizing and ensuring the sustainability of the fishing and aquaculture industry, and for finding alternatives to landfilling marine waste. In fact, the development of marine biotechnologies is one of the objectives of the St. Lawrence Advantage vision, which aims to offer maritime communities promising, sustainable development opportunities.

The BTM-Propulsion program is intended to provide financial support for projects focusing on the development and commercialization of innovative products derived from the valorization of fishery resources and marine co-products through the use of biotechnologies, in order to create a sustainable, inclusive, market-oriented industry recognized worldwide as a model for the sustainable valorization and commercialization of marine resources.

In collaboration with the Secrétariat à la stratégie maritime of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of Quebec, the CRIBIQ is therefore launching its 125th call for projects under the BTM-Propulsion program, with a view to continuing the funding initiative for companies working in the field of marine biotechnologies in Quebec.
