Portrait de la bioéconomie au Bas-Saint-Laurent : La symbiose entre le territoire, le savoir et les collectivités

In 2019, the CRIBIQ organized the very 1st edition of its Forum on the Bioeconomy in Quebec (FIBEQ), in partnership with Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières (IDE Trois-Rivières), the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and Innofibre.

The event was an opportunity for industrial, academic and economic stakeholders to meet and discuss ways of helping the province make the transition to a green, sustainable and competitive economy in the agricultural and forestry sectors, as well as in the biobased chemicals, bioenergy, biomaterials and environment sectors.

350 experts gathered at the Centre d'Événements et de Congrès interactifs de Trois-Rivières (CECi) on June 17-18-19 to share their knowledge and paint a picture of local and international innovations in the bioeconomy, and to establish a unanimous strategy for the development of the bioeconomy in Quebec, while highlighting the opportunities and challenges of this approach for the territory.

The 2nd edition of the FIBEQ took place on June 20-21-22, 2022, at the CECi in Trois-Rivières. This time, some 230 stakeholders from across the province, Canada and Europe discussed the themes surrounding the regional bioeconomy and the development of bioresources, which have the potential to provide Quebec with interesting yield perspectives and development opportunities, enabling the province to considerably reduce its dependence on fossil fuels that are harmful to the environment.

Of course, Quebec is a vast territory, and each region has its own specific bioresources and needs. In this context, the CRIBIQ and the four ACCORD niches of excellence in the Lower St. Lawrence region (Acéricole, Écoconstruction, Tourbe et substrats and Ressources, sciences et technologies marines) organized the 1st regional edition of the Forum Innovation on the Bioeconomy in the Lower St. Lawrence region (FIBEQ BSL). To gain a better understanding of the economic opportunities and potential of the region's bioresources, the CRIBIQ commissioned the AGÉCO Group, in collaboration with the four niches, to conduct a study to gather an overview of the bioeconomy ecosystem in the Lower St. Lawrence region.
