Design and Validation of an Intelligent Payload for Data Collection in Vegetable Production

The agricultural industry is currently going through a period of profound change. Goals to reduce ecological impact are being challenged by labor shortages and a growing world population. This is why intelligent agriculture is growing in popularity. This practice aims to use massive data gathered in the field to optimize decisions and operations, thereby increasing profit margins while reducing environmental impact.

While this practice is promising, it comes at the cost of harvesting large quantities of data in the field to feed it. Currently available data collection tools are either too costly in terms of human time or do not offer sufficient resolution to generate adequate observations. The aim of this project is therefore to select, integrate and validate a suite of sensors with equipment currently being used in the field by our partners by summer 2024.
