Extraction of Nacre Powder From Unused Mollusk Shells

Mother of pearl powder – or nacre powder – has been used for thousands of years. Made from the inner coating of the shell of mollusks, the properties, cosmetic virtues and health benefits of mother of pearl powder are well known and have been scientifically demonstrated.

CaCO3 Biotech (formerly named Cap à l'Est), a young company dedicated to the development and commercialization of innovative products from the marine environment, will begin processing this new product in 2023.

Moreover, this nacre powder will come from the valorization of marine co-products from the fishing industry. Indeed, these mollusk shells, which are rejected by the food sector, could very well benefit from a second life if the first tests are conclusive.

Through its projects, CaCO3 Biotech wishes to participate in the diversification of economic activities in its region by promoting the emergence of new innovative products.
