From Shell to Molecule: Scaling Up and Controlling the Molecular Weight of Chitosan

Our team has developed a novel mechanochemical process, partially scaled up, that enables the production of high-quality commercial chitosan from crustacean residues (waste). In this project, we aim to further scale up the extraction of chitin and adapt our chitosan transformation methods to control the molecular weight of the resulting product. This will tailor it for various applications of interest, such as cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and wastewater treatment.
